Preparing your lawn for winter.

Winter is coming! and your lawn needs protection. Here are a couple of tips and tricks to keep your lawn looking lush thoughout the winter season.

Start your lawn care preping in October. You must make sure to keep the leaves of your lawn to the best of your ability, you can do this by raking the lawn surface making sure to remore any embedded leaves or debris. Layers of fallen leaves or any other materials can impedie drainage, encourage moss and lawn diseases.

Using the correct fertilizer in the winter is key. apply a fertilizer which is high in potassium, this helps with turf health and harden the grass throughout winter.  Using Iron, Magnesium and Sulphur will also benefit lawn health throughout the winter period. Try to stay off the lawn as much as possibly can, especially if it is very wet or there is frost present. Walking on very wet or frosty lawn can cause damage to the grass leaf.

Winter is here and is the perfect opportunity to get your lawn mower serviced and in perfect working order. You should make sure your mower is safe to use. You can do this by checking the oil, the air filter and spark plug. Also check to see if your mower blades need sharpening. Mower blades endure a great deal of stress thanks to rocks, large branches and other hidden objects and debris. A dull blade rips and tears grass instead of providing a clean cut. Unsure on how to sharpen your mower blades? Our mowing page has all the details.
